Roger James Hamilton put this in front of me today. It struck me as motivational, to be sure. But it also struck me as very practical. How long does it take?
Many of our website design clients often ask this question. Some ask it about the web design process. Some ask it about our Content Support process. Most ask how long does it take for their search ranking to increase for a google search.
The answer I want to give? ‘It takes as long as it takes.’ But this does not help our awesome website clients and entrepreneur training clients.
- So, how long does it take for our Lakeland web design process? 7 – 10 days, usually. Longer if you drag your feet getting us content.
- How long is the Content Support (our web support service) process? For the unlimited clients, it takes 36 – 72 hours for a single request, depending on the complexity of it.
- How long does it take for search ranking to increase? That largely depends on whether or not you are deploying our content strategy.
The thing that the answers to these questions have in common is YOU. You are the main factor in how long it takes!
Painful Reality: How Long It Takes Is Up To You
If you are building your business, as many of our clients like you are, I am sure you feel what other entrepreneurs feel: “This takes for freakin’ ever!”
There is a law for it, in fact. It is called Parkinson’s Law. It basically says that work expands to fill the time allotted. For example, how long does it take for search ranking to rise?
If you don’t do anything but sit and wait, then Google ranking takes between 3 and 6 months. Less than a week!! Most of my clients are wondering why it takes so long. Because I do not want to chide them for not doing the Search Engine Optimization strategy I recommend, I simply say that “It takes Google’s crawlers about 3 months to crawl and rank you.”
Your Business is Waiting on Your Hustle
Whatever your business goal is, using Parkinson’s Law, you should be great convicted to shorten the timelines. If you miss your timeline for achieving your goal, that’s ok. Make a note of it, improve your approach, and set a new timeline.
But if you give yourself 2 weeks for your goal, it will take just about 2 weeks. If you give yourself 2 days, I guarantee you will find a way.
Wait, Warren Buffett Said…
Yes, there are some things that just take time. I present for your consideration that the things he was talking about are things regarding nature. Heck, his very example is a natural example; giving birth. It may take a given amount of time for your visualization to pay off. It may take a given amount of time for your garden to grow.
And, there are a few things about your business that do certainly take time. It definitely takes time to build trust. It takes time to perfect your product or service. But, just because there may be some natural limitations to the time, do not drag your feet on the parts you control.
It is Monday! Get to the hustle today! Don’t rush or stress, but do certainly hustle! Shorten your time lines. Bring some intensity. And I guarantee you will see amazing results in your business.
